Artifact TypeJacket, Scarf
Date1989

Embroidered with cowboys, horses and chuckwagons, this jacket was worn by k.d. lang during promotion for her 1989 country album, Absolute Torch and Twang. It was created by famed designer, Nudie Cohn, who established an iconic, flamboyant “western look” sparkling with rhinestones, sequins and cowboy-esque imagery. Many of Cohn’s custom designs became signature looks for their celebrity owners—including Elvis Presley’s gold lamé suit, Hank Williams’ white jacket with musical notes on the sleeves, and Gram Parsons’ infamous suit for the cover of the Flying Burrito Brothers’ 1969 album, The Gilded Palace of Sin.
