Growing up in rural Alberta, k.d. lang was raised with “no gender barriers and really healthy dose of self-confidence”. She has carried this unapologetic attitude throughout her career. Music always comes first, but lang has never stopped taking risks with any part of her stage performance, transforming her clothing styles along with her repertoire. In the ‘90s, she layered and experimented with bold textures and patterns for her stage outfits, wearing this red and gold brocade jacket during the world tour for Ingénue, her award winning second studio album that moved lang into new musical territory.
