Artifact TypeJacket
Date1988

The red and gold maple leaf jacket seen here was worn by Alberta’s own k.d. lang during a live television performance of “Honky Tonk Angels’ Medley” at the 1988 Country Music Association awards, with country legends Loretta Lynn, Brenda Lee and Kitty Wells. This collaboration appears on lang’s 1988 debut solo album, Shadowland, produced by Owen Bradley—legendary Nashville producer and mentor to lang’s catalyst, Patsy Cline. Sparkling with rhinestones, this jacket was inspired by the dazzling outfits worn by fellow Canadian country music icon, Hank Snow.
