Jason McCoy First Electric Guitar

While taking lessons at a music store in Barrie, Ontario, a young Jason McCoy would pass by this guitar each week – falling in love with it, he repeatedly asked his parents to buy it for him. It was a copy of the iconic Gibson Les Paul Jr., made by Univox. The US company started in the early 1960s, mainly focussing on amplifiers, but from 1968 until around 1978 they produced electric, acoustic, and bass guitars. On McCoy’s 12th birthday he was presented with a small gift, which he suspected to be a pair of socks, but to his surprise it was a patch cable with a note that read: “Go look under your bed.” It was, as he says, “the best birthday ever.”
