Founded inNew York, New York, USA
BiographyThe J. & C. Fischer Piano Company is a little known manufacturer in today’s market, however throughout the nineteenth and twentieth centuries their instruments earned a strong and respectable reputation in the United States. The firm, initially known as Nunns & Fischer, was established in New York City in 1839 by Robert Nunns and brothers John and Charles Fischer, who were great grandchildren to King Ferdinand I, a well-known piano builder from Naples, Italy, and had recently immigrated to the United States. By 1840, the name had shifted to the J. & C. Fischer Piano Company. Their output was staggering, producing several thousand units each year until the turn of the century. During the Great Depression, Fischer came under the control of the Aeolian-American Piano Corporation. Following the close of the Second World War, the firm was then transferred to numerous companies, though still retaining some level of control that connects to the original family. Their instruments have consistently maintained a high standard of quality in both construction and sound, merging old world craftsmanship with modern techniques and materials.
