Rocky Mount Instruments, Inc. (RMI)

ActiveRocky Mount, North Carolina, USA
BiographyThere is little documented information about Rocky Mount Instruments, Inc., which is typically abbreviated as RMI. It is known, however, that the firm was based in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, near Raleigh, and was a subsidiary of the Allen Organ Company, who patented the unique “flying” hammer mechanism featured in the Explorer combo organ. Manufacturing of RMI instruments took place in Rocky Mount, while engineering, design, and sales were overseen at the Allen Organ Company’s headquarters in Macungie, Pennsylvania. The RMI brand was dropped in the mid 1980s, with operations ceasing completely by 1999.
