One of k.d. lang’s quirkiest outfits, with felt cut-outs and miniature farm animals sewn on the shoulders and chest, this blue shirt and skirt ensemble is almost a direct textile representation of the cover art from her 1984 debut album, A Truly Western Experience. Handmade by lang and her mother, she also wore this ensemble in 1988 on The Late Show with David Letterman, and as a guest star on the Jim Henson Hour in 1989. It’s a perfect fit for her exuberant performance style at the time, complete with corny patter and a voice that thrilled audiences, night after night.
