Delta Music Research Limited

BiographyDelta Music Research Limited, often referred to simply as DMR, was founded in around 1980 by the late Calgary composer, Tim J. Lawrence. Lawrence presided as President of DMR throughout the company’s entire run. Several mailing addresses are listed throughout DMR documents, including 306 1039 17th Avenue S.W. and 102 1518 15th Avenue S.W., both located in Calgary, Alberta, which is where the company maintained its headquarters. There is little documented information beyond this on the history of the company or its founder. The Models 1000 and 1100 were the first instruments introduced by DMR in 1980. They later released the Model 2000 Electronic Music System. Classified more technically as a type of Polyphonic Computer Synthesizer, the Model 2000 was a more sophisticated, fully digital version of the earlier Models 1000 and 1100. It featured MIDI and system operating software that could be used in conjunction with IBM PC, Apple II, or MacIntosh computers. It came equipped with fourteen voices and numerous parameters that could be modified by the user and store into the instrument’s internal memory. At some point in the company’s history, the Delta Music Research moniker was replaced by Lawrence Polysystems, or LPS. Both DMR and LPS incorporated components manufactured by Curtis Electromusic, J&J Systems Development, and, as aforementioned, PAiA Electronics.
