Mason & Risch Grand Piano

The grand piano seen here belonged to arts administrator and cultural policy advisor, John Roberts. As head of radio music at CBC in the 1970s, Roberts was instrumental in establishing the network’s recording division, and was a strong advocate for the increased broadcast of works by Canadian composers. A close colleague and lifelong friend of Canadian pianist Glenn Gould, Roberts supported the eccentric musician’s move towards TV and radio programming by providing him access to a CBC studio. This piano was frequently played by Gould during visits to Roberts’ home in Toronto.
