Heard on countless hits including Michael Jackson’s “Bad,” Europe’s “The Final Countdown” and Tina Turner’s “Private Dancer”—the DX7 was arguably the most popular synthesizer of the ‘80s, defining much of the pop sound of the era. A digital programmable algorithm synth, the DX7 came equipped with 128 preset sounds that users could play with and edit. This particular model, the “Centennial,” was released in 1987 to commemorate Yamaha’s 100th anniversary.
