Andy Kim Gold Leaf Award

This Gold Leaf Award for “Top Male Vocalist” was given to singer-songwriter Andy Kim for his 1969 hit, “Baby, I Love You.” Made of walnut and designed to resemble a metronome, the Gold Leaf Award is the first version of Canada’s most prestigious award for recorded music—the JUNO. Designed by RPM Magazine Publishers’ Stan Klees, it was presented to Kim at the inaugural RPM Gold Leaf Awards on February 23, 1970 in Toronto, Ontario. The awards ceremony was re-named the JUNO Awards in 1971, in honour of Pierre Juneau, the first head of the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC).
