Created to recognize individuals who have made long-term contributions to the growth and development of Canadian country music, the Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) has inducted 95 members into its hall of fame since 1984. Inductees are peer-selected and honoured each year at the Canadian Country Music Awards. Seen here is a blank version of a Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame (CCMHF) award—made from five pieces of crystal, layered to suggest a curtained stage backdrop.

Operation/FunctionThis artifact consists in a clear glass ovular base with four vertical glass sheets of various size and shape. The front layer of glass is frosted with ‘Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame’ embossed in gold. The back layer of glass is frosted with ‘Canadian Country Music Association’ and logo embossed in white.Cultural SignificanceThe Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame fills an important component in popular music history, focusing on the rich and diverse talent and management that have contributed to the development of the genre with Canada. Inductees into this hall of fame include many revered Canadian country musicians and associated professionals, such as Ray Griff, Anne Murray, Gordon Lightfoot, Sylvia Tyson, Ian Tyson, Rita MacNeil, Buffy Sainte-Marie, Michelle Wright, Hank Smith, Bob Nolan, Carroll Baker, Wilf Carter, Tommy Hunter, Al Cherny, Gary Buck, Don Grashey, Hank Snow, Lucille Starr, and Gordie Tapp.Users/PerformersThe Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame is located within the National Music Centre, who is the official steward of both the hall of fame and its affiliated collection of instruments and memorabilia (organized by the late Canadian singer and record executive, Gary Buck) on behalf of the Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA).
