With a voice reminiscent of Sinatra and other Rat Pack-era crooners, Canadian singer-songwriter Michael Bublé has managed to find success in contemporary music. Before making it big in the early 2000s, he paid his dues playing hotel lounges and cruise ships, and delivering singing telegrams. Now – millions of record sales, four Grammy awards, twelve JUNOS, and five concert tours later – Bublé is proof that crooning is a musical form that never goes out of style. This suit was worn by Bublé to fan meet n’ greets during his To Be Loved tour in 2013.

Born of a childhood interest in music that was fostered by his grandfather’s jazz and soul record collection, Bublé began his career with a win at the British Columbia Youth Talent Search in 1992. Citing influences such as Stevie Wonder, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, and Tony Bennett, Bublé sought to tailor his own creative attention toward the soulful music associated with these musical legends. Following the talent search competition, Bublé recorded his first independent CD with the help of festival organizer, Beverly Delich, and began performing regularly at local music venues. His first big break came in the genre of musical theatre, when he was asked to portray Elvis Presley in a Vancouver production of Red Rock Diner in 1996. Relocation to Toronto followed two years later, with a second appearance in the musical revue, Forever Swing. It was not until Bublé was afforded the opportunity to perform at a private party for Michael McSweeney, a former advisor to the Canadian prime minister, that Bublé’s career took a sharp incline. In 2000, Bublé was invited to perform at Brian Mulroney’s daughter’s wedding, where he was introduced to Canadian producing legend, Grammy-winner, and Warner Bros. music executive, David Foster. Bublé was signed in 2001 to the 143 Records label, with the singer’s first major self-titled record following in 2003. The album was massively successful, achieving multiplatinum status in numerous countries. Since 2004, Bublé has been the recipient of many prestigious awards, including several Juno Awards and Grammy Awards, and has released numerous chart-topping albums. Among his occasional collaborators are Sharon Jones, Ron Sexsmith, and the American actress Reese Witherspoon.
