Therevox

The Therevox ET-4.1 is a continuous pitch analog synthesizer inspired by early electronic instruments like the ondes Martenot and Electro-Theremin. The instrument is played by placing a finger from one hand into a metal ring that is attached to a string. The other hand controls 2 different paddles that provide note articulation control, while the ring/string controls the pitch of the instrument. This particular version is unique because of its plexiglass bottom, giving a view to the hand-wired and hand-soldered circuitry. Jean-Michel Blais, a classically trained pianist and former NMC Artist in Residence (AIR), used the instrument in his AIR performance workshop to explore neo-classical music and his vision of an augmented piano.
