From the escalator to films with sound—the 1900 Exposition Universelle in Paris was an important showcase for a number of new technologies and inventions. Also on exhibit that year was this majestic grand piano, a sterling example of the sturdy construction and loud tone characteristic of Broadwood pianos. Beautifully adorned with a quotation by poet Samuel Rogers, its no surprise that this instrument went home with the expo’s prestigious Grand Prix award.
