BiographyThe Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame is an awards system that is administered by the Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA). Since 1984, the CCMA has been inducting Canadian artists and builders (industry professionals such as managers, agents, music publishers, producers, broadcasters, and record executives) who have made long-term national contributions to the genre; two awards are typically given every year, one in each category. Notable inductees include Ray Griff (1998), Anne Murray (2002), Gordon Lightfoot (2001), Sylvia Tyson (2003), Ian Tyson (1989), Rita MacNeil (2013), Ray St. Germain (2010), Buffy Sainte-Marie (2009), Joyce Smith (2010), Michelle Wright (2011), Hank Smith (1994), Gordon Burnett (1992), Myrna Lorrie (1996), Bob Nolan (1993), Elmer Tippie (2002), Carroll Baker (1992), Wilf Carter (1984), Tommy Hunter (1984), Al Cherny (1989), Gary Buck (2001), Don Grashey (1989), Don Messer (1989), Hank Snow (1989), Lucille Starr (1989), and Gordie Tapp (1990). The CCMA also holds an annual awards ceremony known as the Canadian Country Music Awards, and runs a series of conferences and events for country music professionals every year.
