This gold-painted leather vest and faux fur stole belonged to Canadian rocker, Lee Aaron. Resembling the armoured bustier worn by ‘90s TV character Xena, Warrior Princess, Aaron wore the vest in the music video for her hit song “Metal Queen”, as well as on the cover for her 1984 album of the same name. Inspired by a scene from an animated fantasy movie Heavy Metal, in which a female protagonist responds to sexual harassment with extreme violence, Aaron wrote this song as an anthem about female empowerment. The song and music video quickly catapulted the young singer to iconic status in the rock world.
