The Story & Clark Piano & Organ Company

The Story & Clark Piano & Organ Company was founded by Hampton L. Story in 1859 in Burlington, Vermont. During the Civil War era, the company existed as Story & Powers and operated simply in piano sales. A relocation to Chicago, Illinois in the 1860s resulted in a rebranding as Story & Camp. In 1884, Story & Clark was formed with Story, his son Edward Story, and Melville Clark. By the 1880s, the firm was producing a range of reed organs and pianos, and had expanded manufacturing to include overseas facilities in London and Berlin. Unlike many manufacturers that folded either during the Great Depression or the market shifts of the late twentieth century, Story & Clark pianos still remain in production.
