Buescher Band Instrument Company

Buescher Band Instrument Company was formed in 1894 in Elkhart, Indiana by Ferdinand August “Gus” Buescher (1861 – 1937, Elk Township, Ohio). After settling in Elkhart in 1875, Buescher began apprenticing with Carl Greenleaf Conn’s musical instrument manufacturing firm, Conn. He founded his own company, initially known as the Buescher Manufacturing Company, in 1894. Their production efforts focused primarily on band instruments, primarily brass. Following a brief financial crisis between 1903 and 1904, the firm reorganized and was rebranded as Buescher Band Instrument Company. A merger with Elkhart Band Instrument Company took place in 1926 and, in 1963, the company was sold to Selmer. Buescher was highly reputed for their saxophones, reportedly being the first to oversee their manufacture in the United States.
