Dave Babcock Interview

Dave Babcock is a saxophonist, singer, bandleader and producer based in Edmonton, Alberta. Originally from Vancouver, B.C., Babcock moved to Edmonton and graduated from the Grant MacEwan College music program. A versatile saxophone player, he has been a part of the Edmonton Folk Music Festival house band since 1995 and is a member of the Edmonton Jazz Orchestra. He came to prominence as the leader of the award-winning jazz group the Jump Orchestra and continues to front the blues bands The Nightkeepers and the Dave Babcock Quartet. Babcock has appeared on two JUNO award-winning albums and won the Calgary Blues Music Association’s Horn Player of the Year award in 2013. His long association with Edmonton’s Yardbird Suite, Folk Festival and Stony Plain Records has allowed him to play with big-name artists such as Dr. John, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and the Pointer Sisters.
