Adam Hicks (aka DJ Cosm from Dragon Fli Empire)
Adam Hicks (a.k.a. DJ Cosm) is the main producer and DJ for the Canadian hip-hop duo, Dragon Fli Empire (DFE) with MC Tarik Robinson (a.k.a. Teekay). Both raised in the north of Calgary, with Hicks growing up in the NW community of Ranchlands, the two often reflected the city in their music with tracks like “Mount Pleasant” and “CGY”. As de-facto ambassadors of Calgary hip-hop, they fully embraced their hometown and have dedicated themselves to turning the city’s hip-hop scene into something larger. DJ Cosm continues to work as a producer and promoter for numerous Canadian artists and MCs, and hosts the flagship hip-hop show “Mental Illness” on Calgary’s community radio station, CJSW-FM, where he has hosted programs for over 10 years.
Career Highlights
Since forming in 2002, Dragon fli Empire has released five full-length albums: Conquest (2004), Invasion (2005), Intermission EP (2008), Redefine (2009), and Mission Statement (2013).
The group’s third album Redefine was nominated for “Rap and Hip-Hop Album of the Year” at the 2009 Western Canadian Music Awards.
The duo has toured across Canada and internationally, opening for names like De La Soul, the Roots, and Public Enemy.
As a solo artist DJ Cosm released his debut album Time and Space in 2011 through his independent label Makebelieve Records.
