The leather suit seen here was worn by Canadian singer-songwriter Andy Kim during a 1974 performance of “Rock Me Gently” on BBC’s Top of the Pops TV show. Montréal-born Kim rocketed to fame in the late ‘60s with a string of successful bubblegum pop tunes, but found difficulties getting his songs produced by the early ‘70s. Confident he had a hit; Kim formed his own record company and self- financed the recording session for the now-classic “Rock Me Gently”. Released in 1974, the song went straight to #1 on the Billboard charts and remained there for a staggering 4 months.
