Megatunes Inc.

Collection Info
Megatunes Inc.

Megatunes Inc. was a famed and award-winning Alberta record store owned by Mike and Joni Pleau. Their flagship location on 17th Avenue in Calgary opened in 1988, selling mostly cassette tapes, and moving into the 90s, CDs. In 2003 they added a store in Edmonton, on Whyte Avenue. For more the 20 years Megatunes was a haven for music lovers in the province; an eclectic space decorated with band posters and signed photos where patrons could buy their favourite artists’ albums, merchandise and concert tickets or see a live show. Supporting home-grown talent was a priority for Megatunes, often selling local music on consignment. Following Mike Pleau’s passing in 2008, Joni ran the stores until 2010. This collection of memorabilia highlights some of Megatunes' and Mike's famous Canadian connections; Mike also had a successful career as a Music Rep for Warner and BMG record labels.
